Where dishwashers let you down

Built-in, panel-ready and drawer models all run into a familiar set of problems. These six cover most calls, along with the components our technicians examine early.

Inspection sheet

Cloudy water left behind

A clogged filter, a jammed drain pump or a stuck check valve stops dirty water from draining away.

We check
  • Filter assembly
  • Drain pump
  • Check valve

Dishes still dirty

Blocked spray arm jets, a tired wash motor and a skimpy fill leave food stuck to plates.

We check
  • Spray arms
  • Wash pump
  • Inlet valve

Leak at the front

Water finds the floor through a squashed door gasket, a perished sump seal and connections underneath that have worked loose.

We check
  • Door gasket
  • Sump seal
  • Supply fitting

Wet loads after drying

The heater isn't warming the final rinse, or the temperature probe guiding it gives bad readings.

We check
  • Heating element
  • Thermistor
  • Rinse aid dispenser

Cycle quits early

Worn latch contacts, an unresponsive keypad or a tripped float switch cut the program short.

We check
  • Door latch
  • Keypad
  • Float switch

Grinding during wash

Broken glass in the pump chamber or worn motor bearings create a harsh grinding sound.

We check
  • Pump chamber

Dishwasher codes, decoded

When a wash halts, Beko and Asko models display codes like these. Here is what each means and what to do next.

Beko

  • E:02Try a reset
    Water supply off

Open the shutoff valve under the sink; the program picks up where it left off once water flows.

  • E9Try a reset
    Key held too long

A button has been pressed for over thirty seconds, often by moisture or an object on the panel. Dry the panel and clear it.

  • E:01Call a tech
    Overflow warning

The unit sensed overfilling or a leak. If the code stays after the tub drains, the unit needs service.

  • E3Call a tech
    No water heating

Wash water stays lukewarm because the heating element has a fault.

Asko

  • F11Try a reset
    Drain fault

The machine cannot pump out. Clean the drain pump and filters, then tap any key and the code disappears.

  • F12Try a reset
    Inlet fault

Water is not coming in. Open the supply valve completely, check the inlet line for pinches and tap any key.

  • F41Call a tech
    Heater fault

Asko advises shutting off the water, unplugging the dishwasher and booking service.

  • F56Call a tech
    Circulation pump fault

The pump that drives water through the spray arms has failed and needs repair.

Clean dishes, dry floors

Notes from Lewisville kitchens after a dishwasher fix.

Every glass came out cloudy and the plates felt gritty. Both spray arms were jammed full of debris and a seal was worn. Everything sparkles now.

On time, friendly, cleaned up after himself. The leak is gone.

We have four kids, so a dishwasher that stops halfway is a real crisis here. He got us running again the same day and never once pushed a replacement.

Easy checks worth a try

Before scheduling a technician, look at these four common culprits.

  • Filter rinseRelease the round mesh filter from its spot below the racks and give it a good rinse at the sink.
  • Spray arm jetsRotate both arms with your fingers and clear any plugged jets using a toothpick.
  • Hot water firstLet the sink faucet run hot for a minute so the first fill starts warm.
  • New disposal? If a garbage disposal was just installed, the knockout plug in its drain inlet may still be in place.

Leave these to us

  • Pumps and motors
  • Heaters and thermistors
  • Leaks under the tub

Each of these repairs comes with a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.
