Where cooktops act up

Whether you cook on flame, bare coils, smooth glass or induction, the surface has its own weak points. Six common ones follow, with the components we inspect at the start.

Inspection sheet

Clicking with no flame

A cracked electrode, a crooked cap or ports clogged by boil-overs keep the gas from lighting.

We check
  • Spark electrode
  • Burner cap
  • Burner head

Igniter won't stop clicking

Water from cleaning under the burners or a stuck spark switch keeps the igniters firing.

We check
  • Spark switch
  • Spark module
  • Wiring

Element stays cold

The coil stays dark when its wire breaks, the terminal block scorches or the infinite switch dies.

We check
  • Surface element
  • Terminal block
  • Infinite switch

Element stuck on high

Welded switch contacts send full power to the coil whatever the knob says.

We check
  • Infinite switch
  • Control knob
  • Harness

Induction zone cutting out

Electronics running too hot, a fan underneath that stopped, or a pan the zone refuses to detect.

We check
  • Power board
  • Cooling fan
  • Induction coil

Weak or yellow flame

Half-clogged ports, an out-of-adjustment regulator and a narrowed air shutter starve the burner of oxygen.

We check
  • Burner ports
  • Gas regulator
  • Air shutter

Every burner firing again

Lewisville homeowners after a cooktop repair.

Front left burner just clicked and clicked. One cracked part and some gunk in the ports. Lights instantly now.
Emil J.Lewisville Valley
Our induction cooktop kept switching off mid-recipe, which was maddening. He found the culprit, replaced it and sorted my pans into ones that work and ones that don't.
Rosaria F.Castle Hills
Booked in the morning, coil fixed by lunch. Super easy.

A few checks to try first

Sometimes a cooktop only needs a cap reseated or a different pan. Look at these before you call.

  • Power and gasLook at the breaker first. For gas, the shutoff handle should point along the supply pipe.
  • Burner capsLift each cap off, dry it and reseat it flat and centered on the burner.
  • Clear the portsOnce the burner is cool, open clogged holes gently with a straightened paper clip.
  • Magnet testHold a fridge magnet to the bottom of your pan. If it sticks firmly, the pan will work on induction.

Leave these to us

  • Gas valves and regulators
  • Elements and surface switches
  • Induction boards and fans

Each of these repairs comes with a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.
